We saw a great lightweight cover structure at the IDPA Classifier at the Phoenix Rod & Gun Club on November 26. We took numerous photos of it and decided to try to build one ourselves. Naturally, however, we wanted to do so for the least possible cost. We were able to put the cover structure below together for a grand total of $5. There are captions below each photo.
Here is the two-foot-wide cover structure as the shooter would see it. We used a two foot by four foot piece of plywood for the base so there would be minimal chances for the shooter to stumble on the support structure for the cover.
This is the side that would face downrange. Actually, either side could be used to face the shooter.
This is a close up photo of the base. The 2x4's are screwed to the plywood from the bottom side. A piece of OSB was added for stability of the 2x4's. Note that holes for anchor nails have been placed in all four corners.
We put a piece of old serpentine belt on the base as a carry handle.
The top is exceptionally light weight and could be carried by virtually anyone.
The serpentine belt handle makes it very easy to transport the base. The next phase of this project will be to water seal all of the wood.
